Leaf: Among the French Guiana Palikur, leaves are mixed in water with bark of Caryocar microcarpum and leaves of Elephantopus scaber as a foot-bath remedy for the "puwuski" mycosis and the "wiuri" microfilaria worms. Crushed leaves placed on haemorrhoidal swellings.

Fruit: Rind is used in a decoction with molasses which is drunk for problems of the uterus or womb in Surinam. Juice drunk for typhus.
Fruit Toxicitty: Pulp surrounding the seed is toxic. Juice is a violent purgative.

Seed: For hydropsy and as a taenicide.
